Welcome Message from NMSU​


To Our Future Conference Attendees,
The Engineering Student Council at New Mexico State University (NMSU) is pleased to welcome the
National Association of Engineering Student Councils for the 2024 Engineering Leadership Summit from
March 22nd to 23rd of 2024. This year, our objective is to share a little bit of New Mexico's unique
cuisine, culture, and hospitality while you visit the Land of Enchantment. Since 1888 New Mexico has
been the home of New Mexico State University, a land-grant institution that provides opportunities to
community members at four campuses in all New Mexico’s 33 counties. As a major education-serving
institution in New Mexico, we are proud to be a top Hispanic-serving institution, and a minority-serving
institution. Our campus is a welcoming community with talented faculty, staff, and students who work
together to make the future a better place.

Guillermo J-D Soltero (Lead Coordinator)
- Guillermo J-D Soltero will be the lead coordinator for the NAESC Engineering
Leadership Summit. He was born and raised in Las Cruces, NM, so he knows a thing or
two about being an Aggie. Soltero is a senior majoring in Chemical Engineering and
Materials and plays an active role in making sure students’ voices are heard. He has been
Engineering Student Council President for the past 2 consecutive years, Associated
Students of NMSU Engineering Senator from 2021 to 2023 with companying elected
positions of Vice Chair of the Rules committee and member of the ASNMSU
Appropriations Board. He is also currently serving on the ASNMSU Election and Student
Advocacy boards as well as being active in NMSU’s American Institute of Chemical
Engineers Chapter holding various roles there. Soltero has been responsible for reviving
the NMSU Engineering Student Council after the pandemic and leading the council to
being named NAESC’s 2023 “Best Large Council” for his efforts in creating events to
better Engineering Student life at NMSU. Soltero is excited to be working with all of you
to be hosting a national conference of this magnitude that represents New Mexico, Aggie
and Engineering life.


Diego Chavez Arana (Logistics Coordinator)
- Diego Chavez Arana will be the logistics coordinator for the NAESC Engineering
Leadership Summit. Chavez is pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering,
has an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and holds a B.S. in Aerospace and
Mechanical Engineering, showcasing his strong passion for engineering. Born and raised
in Chihuahua, Mexico, his experience extends beyond national borders to encompass
international exposure. He has worked across various domains, from manufacturing in the
electronics and food Industry to cutting-edge research and development of future
technologies in artificial intelligence at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Chavez has
played a pivotal leadership role as the Vice President in the rechartering of NMSU’s
Engineering Student Council following the pandemic. He has also been elected as a
Senator in ASNMSU for two consecutive years and currently serves as the Vice Chair of
the Credentials and Archives Committee. Chavez’s journey is a testament to his academic
achievements and his dedication to leadership roles. As the NAESC conference aims to
provide a platform for emerging engineering leaders, Chavez’s active involvement
authentically embodies these principles.


Janos Izsak Braun (Financial Coordinator)
- Janos Izsak Braun is serving as the financial coordinator for the NAESC Engineering
Leadership Summit. Majoring in Chemical and Materials Engineering with a focus on
Nuclear Chemical Engineering, he has served his Engineering community as the Vice
President for the Engineering Student Council this academic year. Remaining an active
member in American Institute of Chemical Engineers and serving his department as part
of Chemical Engineering's OXE honor society. He looks forward to further serving the
college as the future Engineering Student Council President, striving to further
amalgamate the engineering community with the college community life. Braun is very
excited to meet the participating colleges in the coming NAESC conference.


About our Engineering program


- Since its inception in 1888 as a land-grant institution, NMSU's College of Engineering has
consistently been at the forefront of preparing students for rewarding careers and conducting
cutting-edge research. Today, NMSU offers 23 undergraduate and graduate degree programs
in engineering. Our diverse range of programs is complemented by state-of-the-art resources,
including the Aggie Innovation Space where students can collaborate on projects, receive
guidance, and access cutting-edge technology. Additionally, our Learning Communities
provide tutoring in all engineering subjects.


- Moreover, our strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Sandia, Los Alamos
National Laboratories, Air Force Research Facilities, White Sands Missile Range, and
Spaceport America enhance the practicality and applicability of our programs, ensuring that
our students possess the skills needed to meet the demands of the industry.


About our council


- We are the NMSU Engineering Student Council, where innovation, collaboration, and student
empowerment intersect. We represent 23 engineering student organizations and over 2,000
engineering students at New Mexico State University. We are dedicated to enhancing the
educational experience and fostering a vibrant community within the College of Engineering.
Through hard-earned efforts of last academic school year we were named Best Large Council by
NAESC on ELS 2023 and won Most Improved Council in West 2023. Our council acts as a
bridge between students, faculty, and industry leaders, creating a platform for meaningful
connections and knowledge exchange. Through a range of planned events, workshops, and
initiatives, we actively promote personal and professional development among for engineering
students. Be bold and join us in our mission to shape the future of engineering education and
innovation while making a profound impact on the professional careers of aspiring engineers.

What to Expect​

The National Association of Engineering Student Councils Engineering Leadership Summit 2024 will be hosted by the Engineers' Council at New Mexico State University! This conference will take place on Friday, March 22nd through Saturday, March 23rd at New Mexico State University's campus. Check-in will be on Thursday, March 21st. We cannot wait to see all our member schools join to share experiences and learn together.

Registration for the NAESC ELS 2024 conference can be accessed through the register button below! The registration fees are to be paid through the following link:

Please complete the registration form for each individual attending. Payments will be made per attendee through the link provided by NMSU, see above. These fees cover conference costs including facilities, housing, transportation, food and more.

Completing the registration form is a registration, not an interest form.

Payment will be expected if the registration form is completed.

FAQs

Do we need to book hotel rooms for our council members attending the conference?

Nope! The host council has reserved hotel rooms on your behalf and your registration costs cover these rooms. 

I am flying to this conference. Which airport should I fly into and what flights times should I take?

Please fly into El Paso International Airport. The last shuttle will run at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.

What is the dress code for this conference?

The dress code for this conference is business casual. We strongly encourage you bring some of your university-shirts and gear to rep for your council! We will send out more information about dress code via email.
